Paraa Safari Lodge: luxury along the Nile

If you're travelling along the River Nile in Uganda its unthinkable not to visit Murchison Falls National Park. This large piece of African savannah is sliced in half by the river and its home to large herds of antilopes and buffalo’s, elephants, giraffes and even lions and leopards.

The River Nile itself is constantly packed with thousands of hippo’s and crocodiles. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers with more than 450 species, living nearby the banks of the river.

To take it all in you need to spend at least a couple of days at Murchison Falls Park.

The team of Travelling along Rivers choose Paraa Safari Lodge for their stay. Not only because of the beautiful location along the Nile, but also because this lodge offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation and adventure.

Staying here means a perfect base within reach for all kinds of safari’s. Our team went right through the savannah in a fourwheel drive from the lodge to the Delta, where the Victoria Nile empties into Lake Albert and the Blue Nile begins.

Even more spectacular was the boat safari with exciting confrontations with drinking elephants, huge crocodiles and pods of hippo’s who take defending their teritories very seriously.

One of the highlights not to be missed here is a visit to the Murchison Falls. On the journey from its source at Lake Victoria to join Lake Albert the river is channelled into a gap of only 6 meters. In an impressive demonstration of power the water plunges 43 meters down.

The game drive and boat safari, organized exclusively for us by the lodge, included the skilled efforts of our excellent guide Amon. The general manager of the lodge, Crispus Nguraru Mwamidi (photo left), proudly announced Amon Coxswain (photo below) as ‘one of our best and most experienced guides’.
